Recently, the applicants who earned a Labor Market Impact Assessment would be given extra 600 points that will nearly assure an invitation for permanent residence application. Labor Market Impact Assessment is a type of document that shows that there’s no qualified Canadian to do the job as evaluated by an employer. Based on the new rules, the figures have significantly decreased. For those applicants who are ready to take some managerial-level jobs will be given 200 points now and other positions will be given 50 points. These dropping in the number of LMIA’s will be a good idea to lessen the number of applicants processing the documents.

Furthermore, foreign workers who possess employer-specific permits from a trade deal such as GAT or NAFTA will be qualified as well to the mentioned additional points. Someone who lived in Canada for ten years under the free trade agreement’s terms and conditions and desires for a permanent residence is considered in the category.

In addition to further changes, a new government program, the Global Skills Strategy is set to assist qualifying companies in growing sectors to recruit global working skills. However, it is still remained unaddressed to the condition of foreign workers in the country because without LMIA they could not be competitive applicants for the Express Entry. Some government officials think that it would be suitable and reasonable for a foreign worker under the Global Skills Strategy to be given with permanent residence especially that the company has proven their contribution in a specific job.
